About Sign of the Lyne

Welcome to Sign of the Lyne - personally selected 'smalls' for the discerning antiques collector.

The Sign of the Lyne, owned and personally managed by Monte and Margaret Lyne Bourjaily, offers discriminating collectors the special opportunity to add fine antique "smalls" to their collections. Many of our items are for the experienced, long-term collector BUT we remember when we first got started. We always have a good selection of items well-suited for beginning collectors. As they refine their interests, becoming more discriminating as their collections grow, they are often the people who encourage the next new collectors.

We concentrate on antique [19th C.] Staffordshire figures, American pottery, German fairings and transferware. Staffordshire figures of groups, both with and without spill vases, are well represented as are dogs. Little Red Riding Hood has a special place in our offerings. We have an extensive reference library on Staffordshire figures and are happy to answer most questions.

We offer a nice range of Antique transferware, especially the ever popular blue and the more desirable pieces such as compotes and vegetable dishes. We also have other transferware colors, such as red and green, available. "Flow blue," a different process from transferware, is also well represented with a nice selection of bowls and platters.

Fairings, often given as prizes at country fairs, are offered in the three primary types: strikers, trinket boxes and action scenes. Many are by Conta & Boehme for which we also have extensive references. We include items such as Kate Greenaway shakers in this category.

American antique pottery includes many attractive bowls and pitchers. Types include redware, yellowware, spongeware and spatterware. Many have scenes on them such as animals or fruit.

Additionally, Margaret Bourjaily offers access to her extensive private network, developed over 40 years, to assist collectors in finding that special Staffordshire figure or fairing that would complement or even complete a part of a collection.

Another point - collecting is not just buying. It is communicating and developing a strong relationship. Please let us know what you think of our items - and let us know what you are looking for - or maybe have for us.
